Flying Officer N Orford-Williams RAFAC
Officer Commanding
Fg Off Orford-Williams has been with the squadron since joining a s a cadet in 2012. Since joining the squadron he has completed the Air Cadet Pilot Navigation Training Scheme. As a cadet he rose to the rank of Sergeant and achieved the Bronze, Silver & Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award. He too over command of the Sqn in 2022. He currently works creating content recommendation algorithms at the BBC.
Sergeant D Rookes RAFAC
Squadron Warrant Officer
Sgt Rookes has been involved with the ATC since 2005 and was a Cadet Flight Sergeant at 16F, completing the 4 day marches in Nijmegen and a gliding scholarship. Sgt Rookes completed 16 hours of glider flying and several hours of powered flight time including in a Merlin helicopter of 28 Sqn RAF. Sgt Rookes was also a snare drummer in the 16F and Middlesex Wing bands, winning the best solo drummer award at Wing Field Day 2008 and meeting the then Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Stewart, who was of the opinion that all drummers are mad. Sgt Rookes is a police officer in the Met.
Civilan Instructor M Button
CI Matthew Button is a graduate from the University of the Arts where he studied Fine Art. He combines heading the MA Production Design course at the London Film School with working as a Designer on TV and Film projects. He was an Army Cadet reaching the rank of Battalion Sergeant Major before becoming an Adult member of Staff with the ACF. He also served in the Army reserves with the then ‘Royal Corps of Transport’ attached to 254 Field Ambulance RAMC. On his more recent return to the Cadet movement. CI Button has been involved at 16F for around five years.
Lance Corporal C Shayle HAC
Fieldcraft Officer
As an ex Cadet Warrant Officer at 16F LCpl Shayle possesses a comprehensive understanding of the demands of cadet life and the interests that cadets have within the organisation. LCpl Shayle's main focus within 16F squadron is fieldcraft. This includes survival in the field; movement in different environments; communications using radios and hand signals; and camouflage and concealment. As a soldier of the Honourable Artillery Company, LCpl Shayle places an emphasis on drill, discipline, and deportment (standards of uniform). LCpl Shayle holds these integral parts of cadet, and military life as of paramount importance. LCpl Shayle is a uniformed member of staff and is the Fieldcraft Officer.
